• KEY POINTS

1. All letter requests should go through piaa@gersteinlab.org
2. We may go back and forth on drafts a few times
3. If the letter is confidential, do NOT send drafts to LI
4. Individuals without initials in the lab should go through lab mentor

• GENERAL OVERVIEW FOR STUDENTS AND INTERNS

1. In general, you will contact Mark to see if he is willing to write a letter for you, BUT:
2. If your mentor will be the sole signer, there is no need to contact Mark. Always contact your mentor for issues related to distribution of the letter.
3. If your letter will be co-signed by your mentor and Mark, work with your mentor on a draft and then have your mentor work together with Mark.
4. If your letter will be signed by only Mark, work with your mentor on formulating a plan and have your mentor discuss further with Mark. A joint meeting with you, your mentor, and Mark may be necessary.
